She & Him, better known as critically acclaimed indie folkster M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel, will release their Volume One debut on March 18 through Merge Records.

Ward met Deschanel when they recorded a version of Richard and Linda Thompson’s “When I Get To The Border” for the soundtrack for the 2007 film, The Go-Getter. Deschanel sent demos of material she had been working on, which eventually comprised nine of Volume One’s songs. The disc, which Ward produced, also features covers of The Beatles‘ “I Should Have Known Better” and Smokey Robinson And The Miracles‘ “You Really Got A Hold On Me.”

The album also features the talents of indie folkster Adam Selzer, DeVotchKa’s Tom Hagerman, Rachel Blumberg, Mike Coykendall, Peter Broderick, Mike Mogis and Paul Brainerd. “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” can be previewed on She & Him’s MySpace page.

Ward’s last Merge album was 2006’s Post-War. He’s previously collaborated with Neko Case, Conor Oberst, Jim James, Nels Cline and Jenny Lewis.

She & Him first performed at last year’s Sundance Film Festival. The duo also played together on Ward’s tour with Norah Jones last summer and at San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival earlier this month. They’ll appear at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas next week.

Here are the tracks on Volume One:

  • “Sentimental Heart”
  • “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?”
  • “This Is Not A Test”
  • “Change Is Hard”
  • “I Thought I Saw Your Face Today”
  • “Take It Back”
  • “I Was Made For You”
  • “You Really Got A Hold On Me”
  • “Black Hole”
  • “Got Me”
  • “I Should Have Known Better”

Kate Moss has her waistcoats, Amy Winehouse has her microminis, and Zooey Deschanel champions the black opaques. They’re all signature items that are nothing to do with trends, although they can sometimes create them: that style statement that is oh-so-YOU.

Signature items can be a great way to shout your style loud and clear… and there is definitely something to be said for consistency. But why do we choose those special pieces? And what happens when you can become synonymous with your fashion and beauty choices – to the extent that you’re barely recognisable without them?

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) – Ed Asner, Jane Alexander and John Goodman are joining Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel in the indie romantic comedy “Gigantic.”

Dano, in theaters with “There Will Be Blood,” plays Brian, a depressed mattress salesman whose quest to adopt a Chinese baby is sidetracked when he falls for Happy (Deschanel).

Asner is set as Brian’s pot-smoking, gangsta rap-loving father, and Alexander as his long-suffering mother. Goodman will play Happy’s brilliant, domineering dad. Director Matt Aselton starts shooting the indie film Monday in New York.

Principal photography on the film “Gigantic,” starring Paul Dano, Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman and Jane Alexander, is set to begin in New York City.

The official start date is Monday, representatives for the film said Friday.

Produced jointly by Mindy Goldberg of Epoch Films and Christine Vachon of Killer Films, the movie will be helmed by first-time feature director Matt Aselton.

The film is described as a comedy about “a single man and mattress store salesman attempting to adopt a new baby from China while negotiating the possibility of a new relationship.”

“We are excited to make this film with Lexicon/Machine Made with such an amazing cast and crew. The financiers and cast have all been very supportive of the material and we are delighted that we are producing the film together,” Goldberg and Vachon said in a joint statement.
