The Free Yr Radio campaign, co-created by Urban Outfitters and Toyota Yaris, continues in its quest to raise awareness and funds for independent radio. The 2008 campaign will kick off March 12 in Austin for the SXSW Launch Party. Indie dance duo Simian Mobile Disco will headline the party with fellow rockers Times New Viking and Yeasayer.

The 2008 Free Yr Radio concert series will run from April through October. Past in-store performances include Sonic Youth, the Klaxons, and Man Man. Participating bands and cities for this year, as well as, the Yaris Giveaway Sweepstakes will be announced at the end of March. The compilation CD featuring tracks donated by participating bands is slated for release in late summer, and will be available at all Urban Outfitters retailers.

Zooey Deschanel has knees
Written by Mandy on February 27th, 2008

Zooey Deschanel has always ranked high in my opinion for her style. She favors vintage frocks, makes silly faces, and sings in a band that covers old Andrew Sisters hits. She’s got all the makings of a style icon. And up until a fewZooeydesc_eric_12910730_600_2 nights ago, the starlet was never spotted on the red carpet without her trusty black tights. Sometimes, they were as opaque as opera curtains; other pairs were sheer and offered a glimpse of a dimpled knee.

Her reticence to go bare and show off those gams made people suspicious. The Fug Girls relentlessly called her out for her reliance on hosiery. Other merciless fashion lieutenants wondered if her legs were scarred from a fire (in her lap?) or mottled with varicose veins.

Zooeydesc_georg_14244211_600 Apparently not, folks. Turns out Deschanel was just self-conscious about herActresszo_alber_51043121_600_3 legs. Is that such a crime? And apparently, she has overcome her anatomical anxiety because she was spotted just a few nights ago wearing nude hose. She may have just barely pulled off the black tights with this red dress, but it looks so much better with a bottom half that matches the top.

The key to wearing black tights with a dress is to be sure that you’re similarly shrouded from the midriff up. Meaning, a plunging neckline that points to a pair of black tights is like a river that bottoms out in a ditch. A jumper with a black turtleneck works perfectly with tights. It’s all about the silhouette.

Dano signs for ‘Gigantic’

Paul Dano, coming off his featured role in “There Will Be Blood,” will star in and executive produce “Gigantic,” an offbeat romantic comedy being helmed by first-time director Matt Aselton. Zooey Deschanel will also star in the indie feature.

Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Charles Pugliese are producing, as is Mindy Goldberg of Epoch Films.

Written by Aselton and Adam Nagata, the script revolves around a mattress salesman and a young woman he meets at his store.

Production is tentatively set for early March in New York. Machine Made Media is financing.

After “Gigantic,” Dano will segue to the indie feature “The Good Heart,” which reunites him with Brian Cox; the two starred in Michael Cuesta’s “L.I.E.” Shooting on “Heart” is scheduled for New York and Iceland at the end of April. “Heart” revolves around an abrasive barman (Cox) and a young homeless man (Dano) who becomes his protege.

Dano caught the industry’s attention with his work in “Little Miss Sunshine,” which he followed up with the characters of Paul and Eli Sunday in “Blood.” He is repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment.

Deschanel will next be seen starring opposite Mark Wahlberg in M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening.” She is repped by CAA, Seven Summits Management and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
