BlackBook Magazine interviewed Zooey for She & Him. The interview also features a great new photoshoot outtake which can be found in our gallery.

We are in the backseat of a rented car, driving down a congested New York City street, when Zooey Deschanel takes the voice recorder from my hand and speaks into it with the intensity of Burt Lancaster’s commanding journalist in Sweet Smell of Success. “Hello? Hello?” she says, and then aims it squarely at singer-songwriter M. Ward.

But there isn’t much that these two don’t already know about each other. Four years and two albums into their musical collaboration as She & Him—their second folksy offering, Volume Two, is out this month- Deschanel, 30, and Ward, 36, come off like childhood friends. They swap high-fives when one of them enters the room. They finish each other’s sentences.

Deschanel refers to acting as her “day job.” When she isn’t writing, recording and performing with Ward, she has established herself as an indie pinup, bringing to life idiosyncratic women in All the Real Girls, The Good Girl, Elf and (500) Days of Summer.

Live Daily brings us a small new interview with Zooey and her She & Him co-worker M.Ward and tour dates for Volume Two.

shehim-20100201Indie-pop outfit She & Him [ tickets ] will play a few headlining dates this spring in advance of the pair’s new studio album and subsequent appearance at April’s Coachella Music Festival.

The duo–singer/songwriter M. Ward and actress/singer Zooey Deschanel–show a pair of dates apiece in Los Angeles (3/15 and 3/25) and New York City (3/29, 30) next month, along with shows in Savannah, GA (3/27) and Pomona, CA (4/15), before tackling their April 16 slot at Indio, CA’s Coachella. Dates are shown at right.

The duo’s second studio album, “Volume Two,” is due in stores March 23. The album–along with its first single, “In the Sun”–can currently be pre-ordered from the act’s website. The new set follows 2008’s “Volume One,” which surprised many fans who only knew of Deschanel through her acting career.

“I had no idea what I was going to hear when I first got her songs,” said Ward in the band’s bio. “I think ‘Volume One’ surprised a lot of people when they opened up the package and learned that she wrote all these songs. There are a lot of people who write music so that they can take their audience to a dark night of their own soul or to get something really heavy off their chest. I don’t think Zooey looks at music that way, and I think that’s a huge part of where her songwriting is coming from.”

Sorry about the lack of updates! To (somewhat) make up for it, here are DVD captures from (500) Days of Summer. I haven’t had a chance to look through the extra features just yet, so I will get to those ASAP!
